For this Debate I focused on which of the moral foundations I thought were most present. I was surprises to see how much they focuses on fairness, compared to the other morals like authority, purity and loyalty which I thought were more present in conservative views. I saw this when talking about changing out tax code.
Carly Florina's definition of fairness with taxes is making the tax code only 3 pages long. The tax code today is currently 373 pages long. She said that a simpler and shorter tax code could help level the playing field between the wealthy and the Americans who can't afford to hire lawyers and accountants. "Three pages is about the maximum that a single business owner or a farmer or just a couple can understand without hiring someone,"
This interested me because the liberals use the same term fairness when talking about their changes to the tax code. They believe it is more fair to make the people that have more money pay a higher percentage, and have the people with less money pay less percentage of their income. When in reality they are completely different and the conservatives would not define this as being "fair" to the american people.
After watching all these debates I've found that the biggest difference between conservatives and liberals is how they define fairness. We all have different moral believes and opinions that drive our political views and help us make decisions about our country.
