In an article in the Huffington post it talked about women in the political field. It stated that "women are less likely to be encouraged to run and less likely to be considered as a potential candidate when a position opens." This is not that they are less qualified but that they believe they have a lesser chance of winning in turn stopping many women from running. Many people believe that being a women with motherly or household roles makes it harder for a women in politics which is not too. Research shows that women that run for politics are just as successful as their male counterparts it's just the lack of women that believe they can run.
I agree with this to a point. I think as a country we have moved a long ways in gender equality but we still have a long ways to go. We just need to encourage the women to believe they have an equal chance. One could even argue that women could have a advantage because men and especially women voting want to increase women in this field but as well we still have Americans that believe these places of power are better represented by men. The role of the government is to represent the american people and for that reason I feel it's important to encourage women to run so they can represent the women in our country more accurately. This includes busting many of the myths our society has about gender norms and equality so we can move forward in a positive direction.
