I do believe the article has a point that in many cases we don't realize how bad the decisions we are making actually are. And as well a lot of these decisions are just human characteristics or cognitive biases. We as humans suffer from a optimistic bias. We like to think things aren't as bad as they really are. Good example of this are some people that smoke, they like to think its not as impact-full in their lives and health as it really is.
This article argued that to save people from their ignorance like drinking large quantities of soda, we could just simply pass a law that making it so you can't buy large bottles of soda. I think the solution to this is more education. If people are educated on how bad it is to drink large amounts of soda they will most likely drink less soda. If this is not the case then that's their choose but it is now not a thought made out of ignorance but now with fully understanding what their decision entails.
If a person is stupid enough to drink a bunch of soda knowing the negative consequences of their actions, I say let them go for it, it's only affecting themselves. You're free to your own choices in this country even if they are terrible decision and you will face the consequences for them. Another example of this for me is, if you are stupid enough to ride a street bike without a helmet then that's your choice. It's not a smart choice but it's a choice you get to make for your self. I say this because I don't believe its the governments place to make our decisions for us. We are big kids and can live our own lives, especially when it comes to petty things such as soda. The purpose of our government is not this, but to deal with bigger issues and to keep us safe. Our founders didn't design our government to regulate soda.
